Momentum begets momentum, and the best way to start is to start.

- Gil Penchina

Momentum is an incredible force - which is why we know that our One Small Thing Challenge is the start of big changes here in Alberta.

Since the start of our hope-filled fireside chats, we have begun to see the impact of our One Small Thing Challenge in our communities. During the first month of the challenge, participants have been extraordinarily creative in their response to our question:

What is one small thing that you can do in the next 24 hours to begin building the future you want to see in Alberta?

Now is a great time for us to share some of the exciting changes made, and the impacts we are seeing:

  • Community outreach to neighbors who are not digitally connected,

  • Actively resting for a day in order to recharge and effectively continue to support their family and community,

  • Reach out to new neighbors to connect them to the neighborhood,

  • Connect to new local candidate in the provincial election to offer support,

  • Share the information from the Women On Fire campfire with friends and through social media,

  • Commit to reading a more diverse news diet that includes independent reporting,

  • Create outreach to younger voters to share information about issues that affect them individually,

  • Research information shared about key issues, provide feedback to the group on what they learned,

  • Communicate with current MLA to share the impact of their commitment and leadership in the local community,

  • Volunteer to host a Women On Fire campfire,

  • Communicate with current MP to share the hope and change that is beginning in Alberta,

  • Volunteer to door knock with local candidates,

  • Volunteer to phone bank for provincial organization that represents their values on important issues.

Of the 8 challenges issued, we have had a total of 23 repsonse. Each one of these actions were such a delightful surpris, a gift for us - and have given us great hope about our path forward.

And now we ask you:

What is one small thing you can do in the next 24 hours to begin building the future you want to see in Alberta?

Let us know on social media – tag us and use the #OneSmallThing or email us back and let us know if you also are starting to feel the change building (info@womenonfire.ca).

Thanks to all of the Women On Fire out there! It only takes a spark.
